Nebulizer - Taking Care & Cleaning Every Other Treatment Day

Taking care and cleaning your nebulizer on a regular basis or every other treatment day is suggested because it is very important in maintaining the health of the device and also yours. You don’t want to inhale germs and bacteria caused by not cleaning. Here are some ways to disinfect and sterilize your nebulizer, we will tackle the two famous way to do so.

  1. Cleaning by boiling water:
  • Make sure to clean your hands before proceeding.
  • Disassemble your nebulizer into parts.
  • Put all the accessories, (except mask, tubing, and interrupter) in boiling water for 10 minutes.
  • After boiling shake off excess water, dry each part.
  • Reattach the nebulizer pieces and tubing to the air compressor and turn on the compressor to dry the nebulizer quickly.
  • Make sure the nebulizer is completely dry before storing it.

  1.  Cleaning by vinegar and water:
  • Make sure to clean your hands before proceeding.
  • Disassemble your nebulizer into parts.
  • Make a solution of 1 part distilled white vinegar and 3 parts hot water.
  • Put all the accessories, (except mask, tubing, and interrupter) in the solution for 1 hour. The solution should be freshly made.
  • After soaking remove the parts from the vinegar solution and rinse them in water.
  • Discard the solution start shaking off excess water from parts.
  • Reattach the nebulizer pieces and tubing to the air compressor and turn on the compressor to dry the nebulizer quickly.
  • Make sure the nebulizer is completely dry before storing it.
  • Replace the tubing every two weeks because it is difficult to clean and dry properly.

These are the normal ways to clean plugged in nebulizers, nowadays the technology for medicine equipment evolves and we now have a portable version of it. It has almost the same easy way to clean it. The thing is it doesn’t use a hose it’s just the mask attached directly to the device so it’s easier and fewer parts to clean.
